EASTER LAKE RESTORATION -

Constructed in 1967, Easter Lake is located southeast Des Moines, near the state capitol and the Iowa State Fairgrounds. Once a rural location, the 172 acre county-owned lake is now surrounded by one of the fastest growing parts of Des Moines. The lake’s drainage area includes both older urban neighborhoods, industrial / commercial districts, and new development, known as the Easter Lake Village. Popular with anglers and families, the lake’s area and depth have been significantly impacted by sediment deposition since the lake was constructed. Pollutants typically found in urban stormwater runoff are also suspected to be influencing water quality in the lake.
